Weekly Writing Challenge: And Now For Something Completely Different

As this week’s challenge wants us to move outside our thinking boxes, I have thought of mixing up things I haven’t done before. My entry is a short story, a bit of fiction and true to life experience, a funny and childish way of storytelling and sketches rather than photos. I know that I am not a very good artist, ha ha but I liked the drawings. I thought that I would like to go back to pre school and draw some more of this. 🙂

For the reader: while reading this, please imagine that the story was being narrated by Gru ( from Despicable Me) with his accent (I think it is Spanish), like when he was narrating the story of the 3 Little Kittens. 🙂

So the story goes like this:

The Story of the Isolated Girl

Once upon a time in a land far far away, there was an isolated girl named Tanya. She was a very brilliant and talented girl but she was so different from all the other girls from the neighborhood that’s why she was always left behind.

While all the other girls were pretty in pink, Tanya was always in shirts and in jeans.

All the other girls go mad on their shopping sprees, cocktails and parties;

she would just sit in the park and strum her guitar or sit in a coffee shop and read and write.

None of the girls wanted to be her friend, and so sometimes she cries out of loneliness.

One starry starry night, she was humming her melody while looking at the stars from her window.

The music that she made was so beautiful yet so lonely that’s why it reached the Fairy Rock Land. Out of curiousity, one of the Fairy Rock Land entities rushed out to planet Earth to meet this girl who creates lovely music.  A Fairy Rock Mother appeared before Tanya and told her to make a wish and she will grant it. Tanya immediately said

I only have one wish, to reach out to people through the music that I make.

And so the Fairy Rock Mother waved her wand and suddenly disappeared.

On a blink of an eye, Tanya found herself singing on a stage in front of a huge crowd, singing and playing her guitar.

She saw all the other girls in the neighborhood singing her songs waving at her, taking a photo of her and taking video of her performance.

And from then on, Tanya lived playing her music happily ever after.

Weekly Writing Challenge : Easy as Pie

I never really wanted to write anything about love whether it’s happy or sad as I don’t want to sound cheesy or corny but it has suddenly clicked  my light bulb.

And this is my entry for this week’s challenge (Easy as Pie) inspired by :

A Rose
Love is a rose but you better not pick it.
It only grows when it’s on the vine.
A handful of thorns and you’ll know you’ve missed it.
You lose your love when you say the word “mine.”
(Neil Young, “Love Is a Rose,” 1977)

You were once a star that sprinkled magic to my life. And from then on I lived a life of fairy tales thinking and wishing that there will be a happy ending. Every day and every night my heartbeats fast. Like a playful kid I ran my heart out, like a free little bird I spread my wings and fly until I almost reached wonderland.

You were once like a spring, a season of flowers and  everything was bright and beautiful. I picked a flower which looks like you and have sent it through with all my love for you. Like fields my love blossomed, like flowers it bloomed. But like the due, your love became blue.

You were once a rose, a red one. I came close and touched you, but all your thorns pricked my fingers. With blood dripping, with pain I wondered. How can a sweet little thing slash me like a powerful sword? It ripped my heart out, and killed my cheerful soul.

Once again you became a star, but then you twinkled death to my dreams. The world turned around and winter rushed in. Sitting beside the window watching the snow flakes fall from the gloomy sky, I embraced my pillow wishing all my life – I hope spring comes again at the right place and at the right time.

Well I don’t have a title for this one, I can’t squeeze my brain anymore.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Solitary (Alone But Not Lonely)

Another entry for the Weekly Photo Challenge : Solitary

This is my favorite photo, a friend of mine took this while I’m enjoying the sound of the waves.

Why wear jacket then go to the beach? Well, during winter here in Dubai it is really freezing. But then people still go to the beach, not to swim but to listen to the waves and watch the sunset.

Mailing Miguel

This is my first attempt to join this Weekly Writing Challenge and I really find this theme (Mail It In) a very interesting one.

I drafted a mail which goes out to Miguel (Miggy) the vocalist of my favorite local band (Chicosci) back home but in a format that I usually use in the office. Please note that this is for the fun and the challenge only. Don’t mean to harm anyone 🙂 I’m just a fan.

Here it goes:

Dear Miggy,

Greetings from the Cactus Fields!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your number one fan representing the desert.

The desert is a wide area of land which grows cactus and other rare plants. This is also where all the camels dwell as they can well adapt with the climate. This is also a place where your kind of music is rare and is difficult to find.

I have been here for few years now, and I have visited several bars with live bands. I am really disappointed as I have not heard any of them that have ever tried to do a cover of any of your songs and I do believe that it is such a pity because your songs are of good musical quality with very strong and intellectual lyrics that gives an inspiration and challenge to all the listeners.

It is a great challenge for me to face not to see you perform live on stage, but I can’t help but to stay here and just watch your latest videos and live performances on youtube.com, the only way for me to witness your energetic and ever entertaining performance. I am also glad that your latest single “Stealing Kisses” is now out on itunes, I can say I am at least updated. I followed you on twitter, reading all your sometimes sarcastic tweets and I am looking forward for you to retweet me as well in the near future.

I have been seeing all your gig updates and photos on your band’s facebook page and I am glad to see each and every update. Please extend my deepest gratitude to the admin of your page for a job well done.

I would like to inform you that I have been a great fan for the last 8 to 10 years. Apologies for the confusion on the exact date, but all that I can remember is that one of my classmates introduced your band to me when I was still in college, and you have been a part of my life ever since.

I am also pleased to see your different hair colors and styles and please don’t get me wrong. You always remind me, and I feel that you are the Gerard Way of our country and that is a compliment.

I would also like to bring to your attention that I have been hearing a lot of constructive feedback from people whom I believe does not appreciate your music. I do understand that not everyone will appreciate your stuff, but it doesn’t make you less as a musician.

I would also like to seize this once in a life time opportunity to inform you that I have tried to do a cover of one of your songs and have uploaded it on youtube. It is called CVSC Aysabaw Version 2, and I really did my best to give justice to your song. And it will be indeed a great pleasure for you to see it.

Please advise me whenever you decide to visit Cactus Fields for a gig and I will definitely be the first one to purchase tickets to your show and I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Please see the attached picture which for me is the best photo of you.

For further inquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Alissa
