A Batfish Stalked Me!

Once during my swims, a fish followed me and when I looked at it closely, I accidentally kissed it and poof! It transformed into a dashing prince with abs.

That was one crappy intro. No fish was harmed, and no fish fell in love with any human here, and no fish turned into an abs-man.

But for real, a fish really followed me.

It was one cloudy afternoon when my dive buddy (because reminder: never dive alone!) and I decided we’d go for some leisure free diving. I thought it was wrong to bring a camera since it was too dark, but it later became of good use. I was able to document a strong evidence against my stalker.

This lone fish was lingering around, some 1 to 2 meters deep from the surface.

My stalker!

I took photos of it, and at first, I was happy that it wasn’t camera shy. But then I moved on from it, and I realized it was following me. I swam faster. It was still following me, slowly but surely. I tried to hide behind my dive buddy, but it just passed by him and continued to follow me. He was so clingy!

See this? This is the evidence that it wasn’t interested with my dive buddy. It only wanted to follow me. It only has its eyes on me. I think it fell in love with me. LOL

We both laughed, but actually, it was freaking me out. I knew it won’t harm me, but I was still not comfortable when any fish comes too close. It was following me for some good fifteen to twenty minutes. It was crazy.

I shared this experience to another colleague and he immediately asked, ‘is it a butterfly fish?’

I showed him the photo because I strongly believed it was a batfish.

‘Yeah, yeah it’s a butterfly fish,’ he said laughing.

He shared that he also experienced the same before and they were just like that. They follow you around.

I was really adamant about it being a butterfly fish so I checked google and asked another colleague. And I was right. It’s really a batfish.

While it was chasing me, I laughed at the thought of turning this situation in a quote (or meme) that goes like ~ Find a man or woman who will chase you like this batfish ~ but I hope that person isn’t a stalker.

Anyhow, here’s the clip of me, being followed by this funny batfish (my evidence!). Have fun!
