I was so excited when I saw that Khaled Hosseini’s new book was available here in Maldives so I bought it immediately without even reading the reviews nor checking what the book is all about.
It’s Khaled Hosseini anyway, I told myself. I need not check. I’m sure I’m gonna love it.
When I got hold of the book, I was surprised to see a thin, wide book. I was expecting a thick one.
I was even surprised when I opened it. It has very less texts and full of illustrations. I had mixed feelings. Not that the illustrations were not good. The book was a work of art. However, I buy Khaled’s books because of his words.
A picture can paint a thousand words. But Khaled’s words can paint thousands of vivid images in my head that I don’t need any illustration to imagine what he says or writes down.
From a reader’s point of view I am a bit disheartened as I was expecting more from this book but from an artist’s point of view, this book is a gem. Maybe it is my fault for not checking the details before buying the book.
Nonetheless, this book is worth keeping and also worth buying as I know that Khaled, not only writes about the war and aftermath and the Afghan and Syrian refugees, but he also helps out so for me, I believe my money will, somehow, reach someone no matter how far, no matter how small the amount. I hope so.
I’d love to hear from you!
