Waking Up to A Brand New Day

You wake up earlier than usual, thinking of the dream you just had. Not the worst, also not the best. Then you started thinking about work and other things. But you thought you’ll stop thinking and just lie on your bed, pull your blanket until your shoulders and watch the thin rays of light peeping through the curtains, giving light to the dark old room you are in. You let yourself indulge in that feeling of being in bed longer than you need to, for there were days you miss it, when you break your back sitting in the office for long hours.

Your mind is racing, thinking about what happened the night before and what do you want to happen today.

You went to Male’ last night for a burger and a company, withstanding the harsh weather, the cold wind, the rough sea and the pouring rain.

A car passed by and splashed water on you. A motorbike passed by and splashed water on you again. Walking on the dark narrow streets of Male’ you utter Maricel Soriano’s undying line, “Ayoko ng masikip, ayoko ng walang tubig, ayoko ng mabaho, ayoko ng walang pagkain, ayoko ng putik!” (I don’t want narrow places, I don’t want not having water, I don’t want stinking places, I don’t want not having food, I don’t want mud! >> ugh, sorry for the translation, didn’t give justice.)

Being splashed on by water reminded you of walking along a high end street on a rainy day more than a decade ago, getting wet by water splashed on by luxury cars with drivers who won’t even mind slowing down when they see people, that’s if they see anyone at all.

Yesterday’s weather was pretty bad but today really looks promising.

You think of what you want to do today and you look forward to the weather’s promise. You miss swimming as you haven’t done it for a few days. You miss the water. But not the type of water splashed upon by vehicles passing by.

  3. Drivers do slow down while driving in rain or even when there’s water on the road. I follow the same.
And yes, I do want to stay on the bed just like you but this doesn’t happen, no matter how much I want to. Probably a little late stay on weekends but not for long.

    1. Aaah some drivers don’t slow down!
